Depending on the type of accumulator, the gas is either contained within a bladder or on one side of a piston. On the opposite side of the bladder or piston, hydraulic fluid is stored at a higher pressure than the gas. This fluid can be released to various parts of the system, such as valves, to actuate them when required.
